Basic Gym Rules
Posted on January 2, 2015
Feel more than welcome to share this post, I hope it can help a lot of people :)!
The first rule to everyone new into the gym is the following: Nobody is going to judge you. If you are fat and in the gym people will only admire your courage and the decision to do something about it. The same goes if you are a very skinny guy. No one was a beast the first time they stepped into the sacred halls of the Temple. And by that token, any muscular guy (or well trained girl) will respect you for taking that first step. People care about you a lot less than you think. So drop foolish notions of insecurities and feel at ease in the gym!
The second rule is to show respect towards other people. Most importantly here is to never talk to anyone immersed in their training. Least of all when they are performing a set. Also, use common sense, if someone is hyping himself up for a heavy set of squat, do not initiate a conversation.
It is fine to ask other lifters for help but make sure that the individual is approachable and not busy. More experienced lifters will be friendly and often happy to give some quick advice but also recognise that they need to train as well. To keep it simple, use common sense!
Always re-rack your weights and never occupy spaces designated for a specific exercise. This means that if you can do deadlifts anywhere in the gym you do not need to occupy the squat rack for it.
Sharing is caring, don’t be afraid to ask if you can jump in between sets if someone is using a certain machine/rack.
Third rule is to check the ego at the door, no one is going to be impressed with your weights in the beginning either way so you might as well find a proper technique, instead of using too heavy weights. It is better to start to light and work yourself up than hurting yourself with weights you can’t handle.
These are the most basic rules, I would say good luck with the training but luck has nothing to do with it so I will go with:
Train insane or remain the same!
Sunday Summary
Posted on December 28, 2014
It has been an eventful week, the news hit Sweden a few days ago that a re-election will not take place. This was indeed a hard blow to many of us, I elaborate on the topic here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wS_X70hcLPo.
Also, Christmas just came and brought us all gains (I hope), I have actually not indulged in particularly much sweets this time. The reasoning here is (which I might have mentioned before) since I don’t have a very large appetite at the moment. Regarding this I will actually make some adjustments to my diet. As it is right now I am mainly eating protein to hit my 180 g a day, when I have eaten that I have no desire to eat anything else. I will take advantage of this situation to lose some fat now, making the spring cut easier. And when my appetite rises again I will utilise that to fuel my performance in the Temple. I am so experienced with how my body works at this stage I work out my plan to best suit what feels best, and not be to strict as to what happens when (ie I must bulk to a certain date and start the cut at another certain date). The main goal is to get well in the back (which is feeling much better now actually) and also to progress in some minor lifts.
Speaking of minor lifts I have had a good few sessions consisting mainly of lateral pull-downs. This is not something I usually do, but it felt like a good choice now considering I want as little stress on the lower back as possible while still in training.
Christmas is also about gaming. I have promised to make let’s plays of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag and maybe Unity so I have been playing Brotherhood and Revelations to get into the story. I am almost finished with Revelations and I must say that both games are superb, especially for someone historically interested as myself. The game play is very similar to Shadow of Mordor which also is a very good game (highly recommended).
The Sunday Summary will be in 2015, which I intend to make a highly productive year. Also, coming up on this fine page will be a summary of the year with lots of pictures and videos.
